Word of the Year for 2020

Image
Oh how I love the start of a new year!  And even better ... the start of a new decade! At the end of  2014, I jumped on the  "Word of the Year" bandwagon. I use my word as a focusing tool. A way to concentrate my efforts for the year. I've had some great successes ... like 2016 when my word was  "good health." (yeah, that's two words but it still counts!)  And in 2017 when I decided to focus on "fitness".  Those were great words that really drove my decision making.  The craziest word I ever chose ... well, really, I think the word chose me ... was also the first word I ever chose and it was "uncomfortable."  I chose the word initially because I wanted to move out of my comfort zone.  I wanted to become unstuck.  I'll tell you what, chose your word carefully (!!) because 2015 was  a very uncomfortable year! BUT ... and this is why I say it chose me ... all  of the things that happened in 2015 woul

Let's Talk :: Books :: Destination Simple by Brooke McAlary

I signed up for a free trial of Amazon Prime the  other day. When I went in to look around at what was available, this book caught my eye. I downloaded it to my kindle and started reading. It took me less than an hour to finish and  was so full of great information!  I cannot wait to sit and do the exercises  included in the book!  Many of the things I already do but there were a few new thoughts, everything else was a great reminder and I will be  doing a refresher of my morning and evening rhythms (previously called routines) but I love her explanation of rhythms and am for sure going to adopt that new terminology!  I'd be happy to share some of what I come  up with if you guys would be interested  in reading about it.  Let me know  in the comments ... although,  I'll probably share anyway, ha ha!  That's just me ...  I'll leave you for  now with this thought  from the book.  The chapter is

Grilled Salmon and Fancy Rocket Salad

Image
Salmon is one of my favourite foods! This is such an easy and delicious way to make it. What you need: Salmon (one piece per person) Skin On Avocado Oil Rocket (arugula) Micro Greens, I used snow pea and radish sprouts this time Radish, (two per person) Avocado (1/4 per person) Red Onion (a few slices per person() Olive Oil Sherry Vinegar Capers Slat and Pepper What you do: Preheat BBQ to 200°C (400°F) Coat all sides of Salmon with Avocado Oil and sprinkle with Salt and Pepper Cook all four sides for three minutes each ... finishing with skin side so it is nice and crispy! Prepare salad on individual plates. Lay Rocket on the bottom and top with some Micro Greens. Thinly slice Avocado, Radish and Red Onion. Add to salad. Drizzle with Olive Oil, Sherry Vinegar. Sprinkle with Salt. When Salmon is cooked, place on top of Salad. Sprinkle with Capers and a few more Micro Greens. xx

Get me to the beach!

AIP  is not just a diet.   It's a lifestyle. It isn't just about the food. It's also about sleep , reducing stress ,  movement and connection. Beach walking with a friend ticks  three of those boxes for me! The obvious one ... movement.  Walking on the beach doesn't feel like exercise. It feels like sand in my toes, water splashing my feet, sea breezes and sunshine vying for my attention. It's the sound of crashing waves. It's crabs and birds and jellyfish on the shore. It's salty.  It's fresh.   It's my favourite! These things all also work towards reducing my stress levels.  The minute my feet hit the sand, I can feel my shoulders let down and my  brain shut out the noise of the "to do" list that  can be constant if not managed. The stress melts away.   I can almost FEEL it go! Pair the beach walk with a friend and all of a sudden we have movement,  reduced stress AND connecti

This is me.

Hi, I'm Bonnie. This is my journal. ** Let me tell you about my journey ... **  There is a quote that says : "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle  you know nothing about. Be Kind. Always."  That quote has resonated with me since the  first time I heard it ...because  I believe it to be completely true.  Everyone has a battle. (and so many of them secret.)  I'm about to share mine with you.  Let me give you a short introduction to the video below, an introduction in how it pertains to me.  I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa. (HS)   I didn't know it was called that until a handful  of years ago. I always just called it "my bumps" ... and only to my husband because he was  the only other person who knew the extent of it  (until a few years ago). He was ... and is still ... the only person (apart from doctors) who have ever seen it in it's entirety.  Unlike Jackson, who shares so bravely  in the Ted Talk below, my HS

My AIP Table - The Journal

Hello! Welcome to My AIP Table - The Journal. I have been on a journey for a few years ... a journey I will tell you all about in my next post. For now though, I want to share a few of my thoughts and the reason for this blog. Like I said, I have been on a journey.   It's a journey of healing. Healing through diet and lifestyle.  It's not a diet to lose weight.  It's not an on again off again thing. It's a diet to reverse symptoms, find healing and then live in and maintain health. I started in April 2017 and I haven't looked back. I have an instagram account called My AIP Table where I share mostly photos of food. I enjoy that platform but I want to do something a little more for 2020. I want to write an online journal of sorts ... that is what you have stumbled upon here! I want a place where I can write notes about what I am learning.  Notes with links to various websites and blogs and podcasts that I find helpful. A p
